CONSULTING OWNERS |
CONSULTING INTERIOR ARCHITECTS |
Have you uncovered historic wallpaper while renovating a building and want expert advice before making costly restoration decisions? Perhaps you’d like some historic wall coverings to be thoroughly documented before they’re removed? If you have any questions at all about historical wallpaper, I can help. I can suggest ways of preserving the building’s dignified history and its fascinating interior design solutions for future generations. Here’s how my quality consultation service works: - First, I come and assess the condition of the site. Where possible, I determine the age and value of the wallpaper on the spot. - I then draw up a memo and documents describing the property’s age, condition and characteristics and suggesting what to do next. The solutions I propose will help you make informed choices in planning your restoration programme. PRICE I charge 50 euros per hour for my consultation service. This includes the cost of transport within Tallinn. I charge extra for visits to sites outside of Tallinn. |
Do you know what patterns were used in Biedermeier-era drawing rooms and conservatories? Which ones were favoured in historicist dining rooms and studies? I can answer these questions and give you all the help you need when it comes to historical wall coverings. This is how the service works: - It’s important that I get to see the building you’re working on and the historic wallpaper you’ve uncovered with my own eyes. After that, we can focus on your vision and work with historical examples. - I’ll give you a style guide on creating a timeless atmosphere using wall coverings. The guide highlights the patterns, colours and decorative wall schemes popular in different eras. - Even if your restoration project is almost complete, I can help you choose the right wall coverings and the manufacturers to buy them from. PREPARING A WALLPAPER PORTFOLIO |
WALLPAPER RECONSTRUCTION |
Have you uncovered old wallpaper in the course of your renovations? Would you like to showcase it so as to preserve the history of the building?
By separating all the historic layers from a large stack of wallpaper, you can create a personal collection – what I like to call a ‘wallpaper portfolio’ – for your home. You can even use selected samples to make beautiful framed artworks to display on the walls instead of paintings or photos. Either option is fine if you don’t wish to (or are unable to) preserve the historic interior of the building in its entirety. In this way, you can preserve part of the history of each room or the decoration of the building as a whole. To create a wallpaper portfolio: - I unpeel the layers of wallpaper from one another one layer at a time in my workshop; and - I frame the wallpaper according to your wishes, or place the samples in a folder with the dates of the finds and an analysis of their styles. PRICE The price of a project depends on the volume of work it involves. Ask me for a quote! |
Is there only a small fragment of wallpaper left and you’d like to know what the room looked like when the wallpaper fully covered its walls?
A wall is the largest and most prominent surface in a room. In centuries past, designers and wallpaper manufacturers used wallpaper to create different atmospheres. Reconstructing historical wallpaper in part or in full can help you restore an historical interior. In most cases this requires a pattern with at least one identifiable repetition, but reconstruction is also possible from smaller fragments. In such cases, archival and analogue research can help recreate the pattern. For the reconstruction of wallpaper: - I need one repetition or an identifiable pattern fragment on which to base archival and analogue research; and - I digitally reproduce the wallpaper or border pattern and determine a suitable printing technique given the options open to you.
